Turmeric Tea Latte

You may or may not know this about me, but I practice what I preach.  In fact, I have never recommended anything that I would not do or consume myself.   I really don’t have a choice, managing my health is something that I just have to do.  Now that doesn’t mean that I eat perfectly all the time, in fact it’s quite the opposite.  I really enjoy chocolate, red wine and pizza!!

So, how do I strike a balance? – I Cleanse!   I embark on this ritual 3 times a year,  Winter, Spring, and Fall for 4 weeks each time.  This is how I keep my energy up, my brain sharp, and my mood stable not to mention it helps my waistline, skin and hair.  If I don’t cleanse I’ll slide down a slippery slope, where my energy starts to wane, I get a foggy brain and I also get kinda emotional.  After all, I am managing  hypothyroidism, a heart condition and dragged out adrenals – all without drugs.

While cleansing, I do like to make sure that I incorporate a regular ‘treat’.  This time around one of my regular go-to’s has been Turmeric Tea Lattes. – This delicately sweet and delicious beverage has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

Studies offer fascinating glimpses into how turmeric can benefit the following health conditions:

–  Depression
–  Inflammation
–  Arthritis
–  Ulcerative colitis
–  Cancer
–  Chronic pain
–  Diabetes

Turmeric tea known by some as liquid gold is truly an example of where “Food is Medicine”.

TURMERIC TEA LATTE RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup filtered water
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder or 1 tablespoon grated fresh turmeric root
  • 1 teaspoon  freshly grated ginger, (or more if you really like it)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 clove
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey (optional)
  • 1/4 cup organic, full fat, unsweetened canned coconut milk

Directions:

  1. Place water, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and clove in a small saucepan and bring to a boil
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes
  3. Stir in coconut milk (this is optional – but so delicious)
  4. Heat and serve
  5. If adding honey, make sure the tea is not too hot – you do NOT want to kill the enzymes in the raw honey
